Flight from BKK to Phuket
 

Do I need to book this flight prior to my travels? It would be on X-mas day this year. Or do I just "wing it."

I'd recommend you book ahead. It's the busiest time of the year in Thailand.

on xmas it might not be too bad, but i would certainly book ahead....

Deffinately book, you have all the long haul travlers arriving and connecting, you really need to book or you could get stuck and ruin your vacation.
There is actualy no reason 'not to book'.

As a further incentive for your partner, if you're thinking of using a low cost carrier, you get the best rate by booking in advance.

you should also book accomodations ahead for any travel between dec 15 and jan 7, especially around christmas and new year, and if you are picky about your accomodations. many things are already booked for those holiday times.
