Five Weeks in China - What to do?

Dear All,

In May/June I will have five weeks in China - where would people recommend I spend my time?

Thanks in advance.

these questions are not easy to answer.

DO some reading on China and pick out 7 locations that relate to your interests then post back is my suggestion

Five weeks is really a long holiday. you can plan a culture-themed trip to China by visiting some historical cities, e.g. Beijing, Xi'an, Luoyang, Kaifeng, Shanghai, Chengdu, Changsha, Guangzhou etc. You can also take a nature-themed trip by visiting Tibet, Yunnan (Dali, Lijiang, Kunming), Guilin, Jiuzhaigou (in Sichuan), Zhangjiajie national park (in Hunan), etc. Of course, you can mix them up. Just selet a few places to travel and enjoy the fanscinating experience.

I would definitely pick up a China guidebook and start reading (as well as asking questions here, of course!) It's a bit like planning a 5-week visit to the USA - someone could recommend all the obvious tourist-attractors ranging from NYC to the Grand Canyon, but an individual visitor's interests may be more specific.
