fishing in hua hin?
 

Hi all,

I have always tried to go fishing every place I have travelled. I love fishing for anything, from trout in NZ to tuna in mexico.
Is there any fishing available out of Hua Hin? I have heard it is a fishing village, but is there anything on offer to the short term visitor?
Would love to know before our trip in march.

There are no saltwater game fishing in Hua Hin but if you really want to go then you can probably charter a squid boat and go out and try to catch some squid at night. You can catch small groupers and such from the shores especially from the rocks around Koa Ta Kriab but don't expect anything spectacular.

Freshwater there are a few fishing parks where they stocked cat fish and other local freshwater game fish in the ponds.

If you are very adventurous I would charter a game boat from Pattaya(2 - 3 hours cruise to Hua Hin) and fish around Sam Roi Yod National park. Some small sailfish, 10 - 20 kgs, and mackerels can be found during certain time of the year.

Around Bangkok there are a number of Barramundi farms that they would permit anglers to fish for them. Great fun and each ponds will have a certain size fish like pond no. 4 will be stocked with 8 - 10 kg barramundis etc. I took a charter boat captain from Cairns to fish there once and he was totally blown away by the fishing. 50 barras in 10 hours all between 7 - 10 kgs!

If you want saltwater game fishing then Phuket will be your best bet. Even there the fishing is not spectacular with the record(unofficial) black marlin of only around 200kgs.

i would not consider HH a small fishing village...it is really a tourist town....i have never seen a person fishing there...

make sure you eat one dinner at supatra...it is fantastic

Certianly not a village, a huge bustling town.
Fishing boats head out from the Fishing Pier, these are larger boats that head into the Gulf and also smaller boats from near Khao Takiab Fishing Village but it's not game fishing.
You can go squid fishing and for small fish around Koh Singtao near Takiab and fishing boats there will take you on a fishing trip but certainly not 'game fishing'.
There is some fresh water fishing inland.

The idea of a small boat out of takiab sounds like fun, even if it is just small stuff..

Hi Vince,

The Barra farms are pretty much non descript and will be very hard for a tourist to find. If you're a serious angler then let me know and I'll get the info for the best Barra farm for you. Note that they don't have tackles for rent and most of them you will be need to bring your own. Some have "deckies" who will release fishes for you etc.
