I agree with kja. For me, at least, too much doing, not enough being and not enough time to get a feel for places. But everyone has their own travel rhythm. I would probably trade 2 nights in Osaka for two more in Kyoto (or possibly omit Takayama and Kanasawa for another trip--can't really speak to this because it is the choice we reluctantly made. We went straight from Hiroshima back to same hotel in Kyoto and spent another morning there before taking the train onto Kansai--gave us a chance to do the Philosopher's Walk twice.

If you are a foodie--what about a one or two night stay in a ryokan?

We loved the outdoor sculpture museum in Hakone. You can find photos of it in autumn on the last part of my trip report of 2008 trip to Japan.

That's pretty good. The Takayama stop is a problem. I strongly recommend that you either spend two nights there or not go to Takayama at all.

Himeji castle can be visited on the way from Hiroshima to Osaka. You can take one night away from Osaka if you do that.

You want to add at least one night to Kanazawa, you just don't know it yet.

When you are in Hirsohima you could try okonomiyaki and then compare it to Osaka-style okonomiyaki. Have Hida beef in Takayama and then compare it to Hiroshima beef. Ramen in Takayama. Oysters in Hiroshima (not sure about the season, tho). Kobe beef in Kyoto or Osaka. But food is a question for Kayey.

Well, the peak of Sakura comes quite late in some years. No one can predict that. This winter appears cooler than usual, so late arrival of Sakura might be happened.

As Takayama gives you something different, I'd probably keep Takayama in your itinerary, but add another night.

I'd also add one more night to Kyoto (at least).

(I'd reduce Osaka to one night, and head over early morning to spend a whole day there and the overnight).

Unless you have a particular eagerness for Disney, I'd probably drop that but that's just me.

And you could easily do early morning from Kyoto to Hiroshima, spend half day in Hiroshima and then go to Miyajima in the afternoon, stay just one night, leave after lunch the next day and return to Kansai region, giving you another night in Kyoto (or Osaka).

Of course, it depends on what you're looking to see and do in each place.
