First hand update from BKK
I wanted to share part of an email I just received from a friend to traveled from LAX to BKK:
We had an absolutely seamless journey to Phuket and just FYI are here safe and very happy. No damage visible from BKK airport; if there was a flood nearby it was not evident however from the center of the plane I could look out and see the city and see what appeared to be more shine to the land than one would expect. Thai Air was as good as I remembered; even our luggage arrived. The place here is as fine a place as any in the world. Cocktails and sunset right now. Cheers! |
I will leave Phuket tomorrow and go to BKK. I think the city center is going to be fine. No problems anticipated.
Phuket and Khao Lak have been really lovely. Hope your friend has as good a time as I have had. |
we just arrived back to central bkk about 6 tonight... the drive from the airport was quick and fine... we were on sukhumvit, soi 4, rama IV, soi 55. lots of sand bags, but no flooding... phuket and khao lak were just fine too--in fact it is quite dry there

123go, I'm glad your friends had a safe journey. Of course, they did not see the areas that have flooded in and around Bangkok, as they were just at the airport. And the Phuket area has not had any flooding.

My friends changed their return on Thai before they left the states with no problem. They were supposed to spend the last three days touring BKK but decided to go home directly from Phukett. I'm sorry they won't experience all the wonderful sights, people and food the city has to offer. Hopefully they will get to try again.
Glad to hear all of you were able to enjoy your visits. Thoughts go out to those who have suffered through these tough times. |
no reason not to go to bkk, everything is fine there in most areas..
