Final leg of my journey - suggestions
 

My wife and I are spending two weeks for Christmas in Japan and then headed to SE Asia.
We are going to Angkor for 3 days, BKK for 4 and would like to fill the last three days with a beach option.

The biggest problem we are facing is that our dates Jan 1-4, so availability is tight.

Any suggestions on nice places that would only require one flight from Bangkok? We are willing to go anywhere in Malaysia or Thailand.

You probably want to stay in Thailand, and Phuket or Krabi are a short flight from Bangkok. You might also consider Hua Hin, which is a 2.5 hour drive from Bangkok. Prices will be quite hight for those dates...

Hua Hin I think is an excellent suggestion. As you don't have to fly there you will not be limited by flight availability.

Is the Hyatt at Hua Hin comparably nice to something I would find in Krabi?

The Hyatt at Hua Hin is really lovely. It is comparable to many nice properties in Krabi or Phuket. Also, perhaps the best spa in the world is almost next door (the Chiva Som).

hyatt is very very nice....i will return there on my next trip....no flight necessary either...i think it is the best in HH...

sheraton at jontiem is also a bit unique and nice too...

jan 2 should be easy and maybe even jan 1 for res...
