Fee if you buy roundtrip but fly 1way?
 

I'm looking to buy a round trip ticket on Philippines Air from Bangkok to Manila, and also from Manila to Hong Kong. I only plan on flying the first legs of each round trip because it is significantly cheaper to buy a round trip than a one way ticket for each. A friend of mine living in Tokyo has been working on setting up our flight from Tokyo to Seoul (also 1 way) and when speaking with a travel agent of some sort, she was told that we would be charged a fairly big fee if we did not take the return trip. I dont know if this was the travel agency's policy, the airlines policy, or what (it was a airfare and hotel package). Has anyone had any experience with this before?

It is true that airlines don't like it if you buy roundtrip and fly one way. I don't know how they would charge you extra - maybe if they have your credit card info... But why not do a multi-stop itinerary rather than buying one ticket at a time? Often times you'll get better fares than one ways.

If you don't fly the second leg outbound, the whole inbound ticket will be canceled. This is airline policy. Post on the airlines board if you want more details - or do a search there.

I just plan on buying a round trip ticket from Bangkok to Manila, and flying to Manila, but not returning to Bangkok. A second round trip from Manila to Caticlan (will fly both flights), and a third separate round trip from Manila to Hong Kong, flying to Hong Kong but not returning to Manila. I dont see how they would be able to cancel anything if they are all booked as separate trips. I tried to do a multi-city itinerary on the Philippines Airlines website but it didnt work a few days ago. Maybe I shall try again...

If they are separate tickets on separate airlines you should be OK. If they're separate tickets on the same airline, I'm not sure. Again, better to ask on the airlines board - or flyertalk.com.

Make sure that the unused tickets are far enough in the future so the airlines doesn't know you aren't using them until you've gotten home.

You won't have any problem, but I doubt that's really the cheapest way to do it. Find a travel agent (online or brick-and-mortar) that specializes in Asian travel, which may be able to put together cheaper one-way flights.
