Family trip to Thailand

We are thinking of going to Thailand next year with our two children (10 and 13) and wanted some advice as to the best time to go (Easter or Summer) and the best place to visit. Any hotel recommendations would be good too. Thanks

Summer is better than Easter. April is the absolute hottest month of the year.

How much time do you have? A typical first visit is time in Bangkok, in the north and at a beach location. You can do this if you have two weeks on the ground. Do you have a guidebook yet? Start with that. Once you know where you want to go, we can help with hotel recommendations.

Ii would suggest 2 venues, Bangkok and a beach area and split your time half and half. In Bangkok stay on the river. The Anatara is a great resort. And has the best pool in Bangkok. It has a boat that will take you to the sky train from which you can get to many of the sights as well as it stops as Asiatique an evening venue where there are shops and restaurants. You can also take river taxis from the sky train stop where you can get to the Grand Palace and the Temple of Dawn. Visit MBK by taking the sky train. This is an air conditioned shopping venue and you and your kids will find it fun. I suggest you buy the Nancy Chandler map of Bangkok. The map is not to scale but it has all the things and places you want to visit clearly identified. You can find it online. If you are there on a weekend and you like markets, the mother of all markets is the Weekend Market where there are thousands of stalls selling everything you can imagine. you get there by taking the subway. also check out the Jim Thompson house- get there on the sky train.
