Family Friendly Hotels in Bangkok
 

Hello, I'm in the early stages of planning our first family vacation to Asia on June. Our first stop is Manila then off to Bangkok. We are family of 4 (kids' ages: 15 and 5 ). Any recommendations for a centrally located family hotels in Bangkok about US$100/night? And within walking distance to the skytrain and shopping malls. We are planning to stay there for 3 or 4 nights. I still haven't planned our itinerary but it'll be the usual first timers trip covering the Grand Palace, water taxis, etc. Thanks!

I would look at the serviced apartment options. Centre Point Silom is quite popular with the folks here on Fodors (do a search) and it's walking distance to the river boats and skytrain. Studios start around $70 a night at the discount sites, and the do have two-bedroom units. Centre Point has several properties around Bangkok, and almost all of them are well located close to trains, etc. Other local serviced apartment chains are Citadines, Somerset and Fraser Suites.

CP is a good choice...and its less than $100 for one bedroom but you would want two which will be more but not much...

You don't want a hostel when you can get something quite nice for your price range. And yes, you can stay very close to the skytrain.

I would not recommend Majestic Grande as their rooms would be too small for a family. The idea of a serviced apartment is probably your best bet. And they are family friendly! I stayed at Somerset Suan Park View apartment hotel a few years ago. It was about 7 minutes walk from the skytrain stations at either Phloenchit or Chitlom stations.

Apartments give you quite a bit more room than hotel rooms, and you still get the same maid service, etc. You can stock food and beverages in the fridge and pop things into the microwave for quick snacks. I would do the serviced apartment if it were me.

Yes a apartmentis the way to go to keep your costs down, Most hotels will not allow 4 people in a room and if they do they will charge extra.
Take a look at the Evergreen Place apartments http://www.evergreenapartment.com/
They have a special rate in yout time frame for a 2 bedroom (83sqm) at around $115 net. They are in the Siam area within a short walking distance from the skytrain and one stop from some of the major shopping malls.

I've stayed at the Centre Pointe Silom. It was lovely...right on the river about 200 steps from the Taksin skytrain station. Huge apartments. I would guess any of their other locations would be equally nice.

Hit "submit" too fast. Centre Point was about $70 when we were there. Prices go up and down.

Another place i liked was the Landmark hotel. It is about a minute walk from the Nana station, in a neighborhood full of restaurants and small shops. They often have specials. i think we went under one of their two-rooms-for the -price-of one. Our kids were 19 and 21 at the time, so we liked have two rooms. You might find other specials as well. Get one that includes breakfast as their buffet is one on my favorites anywhere!

I find the stench of cigarette smoke around the Landmark public areas very off-putting, but maybe that's just me.

Somerset Lake Point om Suk soi 16 has absolutely brilliant rooms. The 2 bedroom apartment that we had last year was huge.

It is around a 10 minute walk to the Skytrain which is the only slight downside but it is well serviced by taxi's. They do have a complimentary Tuk-Tuk but we found it quicker to walk than to wait around for it.

Plenty of good restaraunts, massage and a supermarket within 100m of the hotel. Fantastic Pool and Gym, Free internet in all rooms. . Breakfast is not spectacular but adequate. Extremely family friendly and very well priced for the standard and size of the room.

Another thought if Location is the most important thing would be the Asia Hotel. You dont have to actually leave the Hotel to catch the skytrain as it is built on top of it and it is just a few stops from Siam Sq. Not the most elegent, friendly or stylish place but you wont get a better location for access to shopping for $100us for all of you.

Thats true about the Asia. my Dd and her pal stayed there, and found it perfectly adequate for the price.. (Until she came and saw my suite at the Peninsula, that is!)

My family stayed at the Evergreen Place apartments last year. Family of 5 in 2br appartment. Very safe, clean and close to the Skytrain and MBK. Great pool for the kids. Would stay there again next time we are in Bangkok.

Been checking out other hotels as well and still torn if we want to stay in Silom, Chinatown or Sikhumvit. Oh boy, decisions decisions...
