Fake Nails Filled In Hong Kong
 

I am asking this question to Cicerone but if anyone else knows, I'd apprecite the help.

It's a big thing in Canada & US to have acrylic nails. Only problem is that they need to be "filled" every 2 weeks.

I will be doing a 12 day tour in mainland China in September ending up in HK for another 12 days. I will definely need a "fill" in HK.

Do you know anywhere cheap to get this done? I looked 4 years ago on a trip to HK and they wanted $500 HK which is really expensive. I pay $15 Cdn (Approx $103 HK). My sister-in-law said that was because fake nails are only for Westerners.

Okay. I thought maybe there were small shops where the locals go versus the fancy places near the tourist hotels. Language is not a problem as my husband speaks Chinese.

Any help would help.

Betty, I have acrylics and pay HK$400 for a fill. My place is quite local and is not in a hotel or a big spa, so I don't know that you would find it much cheaper elsewhere. (While I agree that the price is expensive in terms of Hong Kong, it is a bit cheaper than I would pay in the US and is a good bit cheaper than Switzerland, so your Canadian price is very good indeed.) If you are interested, I can give you the salon address, they are on Connaught Road near the Exchange Square bus terminal. They speak English.

Also, are you sure you don't mean a gel fill, rather than acrylic. I think gel is often cheaper, but I use acyrlic as I don't like the gel.

Cicerone, here in Canada the acrylic are cheaper but supposedly the gel is better. I tried the gel but also did not like it.

The young woman who does my nails is Sammi, but you could book with anyone who is available, I think any of them would be fine. They do not take credit cards, only cash.

The shop is in the basement of a building which is almost directly across Connaught Road from the central bus terminus in Exchange Place. However, you have to cross the street using one of the pedestrian overpasses, as you can't actually cross at street level, so you will have to take an escalator up from the bus station to the pedestrian walkway level and then cross, and then take a stairway or escalator down again to the street level on the other side of Connaught. #33 is next store to a McDonalds restaurant. The entrance is down a flight a stairs outside and to the right of the main glass door entrance to the building.

If you are taking the MTR, take it to the Central station and then go to Exit Door A (which is Connaught Road), this may be a longish underground walk as you will be crossing underneath several streets and buildings. When you come up out of the exit at Door A onto street level, turn left down Connaught Road, looking for the McDonalds which will be on the left maybe 30 yards down. #33 is just beyond that.

I am going to post on the Several Road walk shortly; but it has been poring with rain literally almost every day for the past 2 months, and between that and my travel schedule I have not had much opportunity to do the walk again, and want to get all the directions correct.

Betty, they would know me as Nancy if you want to use my name, but I don't think that is necessary. On a weekday, I would not think you need a booking, but you would want one for a Saturday. They are closed on Sundays (unusually for Hong Kong). I believe they are open every other day of the week.
