Fabulous book for planning a trip to India
We took our first trip to India two years ago (six weeks in India), and I bought this book because I had heard it was highly recommended. Now, I am trying to put together another trip, and I am once again drawn to this book because of the fabulous descriptions of the areas that the author gives. Her writing is so evocative of the areas and is enjoyable reading that reads more like a travelogue in many ways. In addition, her information on such things as foods and religions is excellent. Despite the fact that the book is now fifteen years old so hotel recommendations are no longer relevant, I put it in my "must" list for pre-trip planning and reading at home. I got mine for less than $5.00 total used. I just thought I'd pass this along since most people browsing for a guidebook wouldn't ever come across this gem.

julies - thank you.
India is high on my list so it's very useful information. I have some guide/travel books which fall into this category - HV Moreton, James/Jan Morris, and others. I've put it on my wish list! |
I also just found out that she is the author of the National Geographic series book on India, and there is a new issue due to publish any day.

fyi...Louise Nicholson runs tours to India, as well. Has a website.

Elaine--I did take a look at her website. Not too much info there.
If anyone is reading this thread, I just got the National Geographic book so I could make a comparison. Her original book is sooooooooo much more helpful. See if you can run down a used copy. |
