Eyeglasses - Singapore

Hi everyone. I am visiting Singapore in a few months and am keen to have prescription glasses made up if it can be done more cheaply than in Australia. Any suggestions re where to go? Thanks :-)

ICU in Suntec Mall ground floor has the largest collection in Singapore.def cheaper than OZ. maybe 20% cheaper.

I recently paid S$400 for a pair of prescription glasses in Singapore. Didn't seem particularly cheap to me (compared to the US anyway), but I have no idea what specs go for in OZ.

Optical shops are on every corner in Singapore - got mine at Han Optical in the Shaw Center on Orchard Road.

They had them ready for me in about a day, which was great as my time was limited.

P.S. - Eye exam was free of charge with purchase.

Forgot to mention the ophthalmologist has a MBA from England. He's very thorough in his examination.

"MBA" - Master of Business Administration I think you've made a typo or are you referring to some other medical degree?

How about Contact lens?
I wear disposables, expensive in UK...do I need to bring a perscription with me?

Thanks.

Ya right, he has a masters in ophthalmology or something like that.

I think it helps to bring your prescription but really it's up to you.

I wouldn't recommend Han Optical. I have been using them for years, and on a recent trip to Singapore, I tried to make an appointment with them, but they refused it, saying that as I haven't used them in the last year, they didn't want me as a customer any more as they have to be "very selective"! When I tried to explain that I have been overseas, Mr Han's wife just hung up on me. This is despite the fact that my husband and I have spent a substantial amount each year on their designer range sunglasses (they always try to sell you the most expensive frames)and contact lenses. I was shocked at their rudeness.

In defence of Han Optical, I know that they have been experiencing some terrible personal problems of late and that may be why you got poor service on this occasion. I have been a customer of theirs for 20 years, visiting each time I have been in Singapore - sometimes with years in between visits - and on each occasion have been treated courteously and VERY efficiently. I think you may have been unlucky to catch them at a bad time!
