Everest Base Camp (and possibly Tibet)
 

I'm looking for info on good outfitters to sign up with for the Everest Base Camp trek for this fall (Oct/Nov timeframe). I'm also looking into traveling to Lhasa if possible.
1. Any recommendations on reliable operators who organize group treks that one can sign up for?
2. What price range should I expect?
3. Aside from the dropping temperatures, how is November for a trek to the EBC and a trip to Lhasa?

Since your post has only attracted spam so far, let me recommend that you take a look at Lonely Planet's forum, Thorntree. I expect you'll get more responses there.

Remember that from Nepal, the trek to Everest base camp is about two weeks. From the Tibet side, you can drive to the base camp.

I'm also tempted to ask why you want to go to the base camp? Everything I've seen and read makes it sound like a really trashy place. BTW, there are no permits being given for foreigners to enter Tibet right now. The situation may well change by the fall, but you need a back-up plan in case it doesn't.

Have a look at Trip Advisor, too. They have a much more active Nepal/Tibet forum & some very knowledgeable & helpful posters.

Thanks for the response. ThornTree does seem to have more threads on EBC. I wasn't aware that permits are not being given to enter Tibet at the moment. Thanks for the info thursdaysd. I will track that more closely and here's hoping things change by fall. Thanks!

we went to a talk/slide show last night at REI here in NYC given by an acquaintance who recently returned from a trek to EBC. It was arranged by a Sherpa, Karma (real name) who lives in Colorado. Our friend had met Karma on a previous trip to Nepal years ago, and Karma had been determined to come to the U.S. He/Karma lives in CO now and organizes treks to Everest. Lee--the trekker went through Nepal; their group was composed of twelve people; he had spent several years preparing for it and spent a month there. The actual trek to base camp took twelve days up and four or five days down. Two others in the group continued to the summit successfully. The entire trip was through Nepal. They never entered Tibet.

i will be going to nepal on october 2012 and will do the everst base camp, i am already in contact with some person from kathmandu who are arranging the trek, i am looking for someone to join me, if you are interested let me know
