Eval of JAL by Fodorites

We are flying LAX to BKK by JAL.

We have flown many miles on other airlines but never on JAL =;

What do the Fodorites think about JAL??:-B

Probably my favorite asian carrier. What class are you going in? They have a wonderful business class. However, while their economy/coach is somewhat better than the American carriers it is no great shakes anymore. Their economy seating has become more cramped during the last few years like everybody elses. Food service especially the quantities/portions have been cut back so be sure to bring along some snacks if in economy. You'll have access to plenty of movies/music on demand. Regardless of class, much more atentive and friendly cabin attendents.

I just flew JAL last month- Honolulu to Tokyo, Tokyo to Bangkok, then back; BKK-NAR, and NAR-HNL.

The US to Narita flights were very full, and seats similar to UAL or AA in Economy but service was nicer. Food was decent- choice of Japanese or western ln all flights. All flights except our HNL to NAR had the personal TV/game screens.

The NAR-BKK flights were about 40% empty, so we enjoyed the extra space.
FAs on the NAR-BKK flights were mostly Thai women.

Of the two Japanese airlines, I prefer ANA, but I'll choose JAL over any other carrier!

Japan Air is much better than american carriers but I think it's a bit behind Cathay, Malaysian and Singapore and ANA..
