EVA Airline: Date Change on Ticket?!
 

Greetings! I think I will be staying in Thailand a week longer than I had originally anticipated. I already have my ticket.

I called EVA Airline to see if there is a charge to change my departure from Portland, OR.

I was told that there would be a charge on my way to Thailand but there isn't a charge if I want to stay longer once I get to Thailand.

Does this sound right?

I wouldn't normally ask this after being given an answer by an airline but we received MANY different answers during our booking of the flight so I want to make sure this info is correct.

Can anyone verify that I will be charged if I leave PDX early but I won't be charged if I leave Thailand later than planned?

It depends on the fare class your ticket is booked into, and the explicit policy for that class. The airline is the only one that can tell you what that policy is.

Thanks Bob, But have you ever dealt with EVA?! As I mentioned in the original post, I get a different answer with each person I talk to.

I posted this hoping for feedback from others who have actually done this.

does sound very odd....call back and ask another agent...go for it...you will love thailand....any extra time is worth it!!

I have no doubt that I will love it! I told my boyfriend last night that I might stay an extra 2 weeks if my funds allow for it!

It never hurts to ask again. I haven't dealt with EVA before, but I've had plenty of tickets where you could change the return for no fee, but not the outgoing flight. That used to be quite common on US carriers. Nowdays, with their financial problems, the US airlines like to charge extra for everything!

I am travelling with Eva next summer (from London) and was told by Trailfinders (flight booking agent) when I booked that if I changed the flight return date whilst still in
the UK it would cost me but if I changed once already in Thailand it wouldn't cost anything. So that seems to match up with what you are being told too.

I've had the same, fee to change the outbound but no problems or fees to change return, that's SE Asia to Australia, so it seems a lot do this. I've also had the one where we could change even the outbound if it was before the ticket was issued, but it's wise to check with them.

Eurotraveller, did you buy direct from Eva or from a T/agent? Go to whoever you bought the ticket from.

James, I did buy direct from EVA. I was going to extend my trip on each end but I guess I will stick to my schedule going over and stay longer on the other end.

My daughter just had a THai Air ticket that did this...$100 to change the start date, free to come home differently. She changed the return date twice and sure enough, they did it free!

If this helps----My brother, son and myself went to Vietnam via EVA in 2004. My brother was having such a good time he called EVA and they allowed him to stay an extra week without a charge for the change. We flew their evergreen class and like it so much we are flying with them again to bkk in February.
