Emirates flight between BKK and HkG

In 3 weeks I will have to get from BKK to HKG in order to connect with my flight home. I've heard Emirates has gone downhill a bit in terms of on-time record, luggage handling and the like. Kayak is posting Emirates flights for $196 USD one way...seems like a decent deal but only if the flight takes off on time so we aren't stuck in the airport for hours. Other options are Thai and Cathay but they are both about $100 more. Anyone fly this route or airline on a regular basis? Any advice would be welcome!

I haven't heard that they aren't good.

Aside from that, since you aren't flying HKG - home on a single ticket, be absolutely sure you lleave enough time to connect in Bangkok. I would get to BKK at least the day before your flight out rather than try to guess if your connecting flight will be properly timed for convenience. Every airline has delays and cancellations, many are due to weather, air traffic, or equipment issues that are impossible to predict or control.

Air Asia flies to BKK from Macau, which might be worth looking at.

Thanks KimJapan-- I will look into Air Asia to Macau. The HKG-BKK connection was done on purpose so we could have 3 days on either side to shop/sightsee in each city before going home so no problem. This will be our third trip to SE Asia.

Is Macau a decent alternative? Do we need a special visa? How long would it take to transfer from Macau to Hong Kong Island?

Hi, I'm looking for a bit more feedback on this Emirates airline flight from BKK to HKG... or should we just book Macau on air asia? We dont have any intentions of touring Macau so we would need to transfer direct to HKG anyway. Any advice on logistics would be super! Thanks again.

Emirates always has this cheap fare from BKK to HK. I haven't heard anything bad about them myself. Getting from Macau to HK takes a couple of hours, so I wouldn't do that unless I had days in HK to kill.

The fundamental question is: what's the window you're looking at in HK? It it's less than a couple of hours, I'd think twice.

Thank you MichaelBKK. We will have 3-4 days in Hong Kong before we get our flight home to Canada so there isn't really a "window" to worry about. I guess I was mostly wondering if this cheap fare with Emirates was too good to be true... but I haven't heard anything to point me in the other direction so I guess I'll book it! Thanks again.
