elephants in Thailand
Hi.
We will be in Chiang Mai for a few days and want to visit the Elephant Conservation Center in Lampang. Does anyone know the best way(s) to get there? We will not be renting a car. Thanks as usual... |
Hire a car and driver to take you.

Or take any bus to Lampang and get off at the elephant place. Long walk from the road though. :) the park is big.
Indeed easiest to rent a car or moped. |
how easy is it to rent a car in Thailand, are the roadsigns also written in english? How long of a drive is it from Chiang Mai to Lampang? I want to make sure to get there in time for the bathing, what time does that usually start. Does anyone have the website for the Elephant conservation center?

We had a driver take us to the ECC. It took about an hour, and he drove fast. Bathing starts at 9:45 and lasts about 10 minutes. The show starts at 10, the elephants go directly from the water to the show grounds. To be sure you would see the bathing, I'd leave Chiang Mai by 8:30 at the latest.
www.changthai.com It's easy to rent a car, but we prefer having a driver as whoever drives can't really see anything along the way and can't really relax. It's very reasonable for a car and driver...at Christmas this year, we paid 1500 baht for a full day, or 200 baht for an hourly rate...included car and driver. Some signs are written in English letters, but more often than not there are no signs at all. If you really want to drive yourself, you'll need a decent map. |
