Electric hair curlers in Beijing?
I will be in Beijing at the Palace Hotel for six nights. I understand there are hair dryers in the rooms, but I am wondering if either my European or American curling iron will work there. If so, what kind of adaptor do I need? Thanks very much. Boots Newstrom

Just got back from Beijing last week. Stayed at the Kunlun, a gorgeous 5-star. There was a hair dryer, but luckily I carried my own converter/adaptor so I could use my own hot brush. Just an adaptor won't do, you also need the converter to convert the voltage to the US appliance. Bought mine at Walmart.
You will absolutely love Beijing! It far exceeded our expectations, and the people were so nice everywhere.

Hi,

The Palace will also have converters that you can use. (as well as adapters)

Your European curling iron will work there...you will just need an adaptor plug, not a convertor. If you do not have a set of international adaptor plugs (which will tell you what shape you need for China) the hotel will most likely have one.

I stayed at the Palace in September, I think it is best to take your own convertor and adaptor--the hotel seems to run short on these items for guest use. You will love Beijing, be sure to go out in the evening/late afternoon and walk down to the main street, a few blocks from the hotel, and take in the food street--lots of interesting items! Have a great time--we loved China! I had no problems with my American hair dryer or curling iron.
Thanks to every one of you for your responses. It is a shame that I have to be worried about hair when there will be so many interesting things to do. I'm also glad for the good reports on the Palace. Boots
