EF College Break to Japan?
 

My friends and I are college students and we were considering going to Japan this summer through EF College Break. However, I am wary to use them now that I have read some not so favorable trip descriptions here. Those have all been to Europe, though. Has anyone ever gone to Japan through this company? If so, could you please give us your review? Thanks so much.

I have not heard of that tour operator, but there should be enough Japan travel experts on this forum who can give you an idea of if their itinerary makes sense or not if you can provide us more info.

In general, it's not that difficult to arrange back-packing trip in Japan. The main thing is to get the rail pass in advance, and maybe make accomodation reservations esp if you're travelling in peak(-ish) summer season.

There's the rundown of the tour. It will be about $2300 per person for us, which includes hotel, travel, airfair, and tours.

It's not really the itinerary that is worrying me, though. For that price I am not expecting 4 star accomidations, but I've heard some things about they hotels that they book, such as there is no running water or heat. (well, the heat wouldn't be a problem in the summer but you get my drift)

Thanks, I've also been looking into booking the trip ourselves. My friends who have been to Japan have recommended me a site to book a plane ticket for under $1000, but they only offer tickets a couple of months in advance. I am worried that would be too short notice, especially during the busy summer travel season. (that site is http://www.jtbusa.com/ ) This would be my first time arranging travel outside of the US, so I'm a little nervous about not doing it right.

How long it the trip for $2300.00? I think you could plan the trip yourselves for less than that. Heck, stay at a youth hospice, they are clean and cheap.

Looks like a good tour. You really ought to call them and ask what accommodations they provide. They might not know (or maybe they do) where you will be staying but they ought to be able to narrow it down to a couple of places that they have used in the past. They have done this tour in the past? How long? Where did they put people up the last time? What are the transfers that are provided, are they chartering a bus or van for your group? You and "friends" means at least three people, so y'all represent at least a $7000 sale to them, so they can answer a few questions for you.

You could put it together yourself, but that tour might be a good value, and efficient, with the guide and transfers, etc.

JTB USA is going to be able to hook you up with the airfare that they advertise, no problem there. But you might be able to get better elsewhere. Where are you traveling from and when do you want to go?

I've done tours to Thailand (my favorite), Costa Rica, Egypt, and to Europe. They were all great tours. They are cheap and do offer the best prices, but quality isn't lacked because of this.
