Earthquake in Burma
Just seen reports of a quake in Burma, around Shwebo about 60 km north of Mandalay. First reports suggest some casualties.

Yes I felt it while in the shower this morning here in Bangkok. The whole building felt like it was swaying back and forth for quite a while. Scared the s--t out of me
Aloha! |
Chandeliers be swinging, pool water rippling, quite a strong one IMO.
it was only a reaction to the idea of a visit from obama
It was quite a ride standing at the train station in Shwenyaung, about 100 miles from the epicenter. But not nearly as alarming as the subsequent 3+ hours on the train to Kalaw.
There was also a fuel train explosion (unrelated, I believe) in the north. Last night there were five reported deaths from the 6.8 quake, but supposedly none in the Mandalay or more heavily populated areas.
Wow, really Bob? A lot of people died. That's really inappropriate.
12 dead, may injured, many more unaccounted for.
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationwo...,3675272.story Great time to mention politics. |
Sorry to hear that. Last time there was a quake in that area, the government closed off areas within maybe 100 kms. of the quake.
MmePerdu, the trains in Burma are notoriously uncomfortable, swaying wildly and rough. The views are supposed to be incredible, so do tell us about it! |
I have just exchanged emails with our friend, MinThu, in Bagan. He said there is no damage in Bagan, but that a bridge and religious monuments in Mandalay have been damaged. Inside the country, the news says there are no casualties. One of the things you will find while traveling in Burma is that if you want to know what is going on inside the country, you need to check external websites - news from Thailand or the BBC.
A wholly inappropriate comment Bob.
The holier than thou has spoken. Let he without sin cast the first stone. Well there are obviously at least two without sin on this thread.
We pray here for the souls lost in this tragedy without bias |
Kathie, not incredible enough for the pain. Literally. But it was an experience, not sorry I did it and will report when I have a reliable connection.
I'll look forward to your report, MmePerdu.
Is there any update on the numbers of fatalities and injured in the earthquake --- from a reliable, inside source. I have seen the govt statement of no deaths.
