Dressmakers in Bangkok

Can anyone suggest a good place to have dresses made in Bangkok? We will have a total of 12 days there but the finishing time is not a problem as a friend who lives there can send it to us if needs be. Thanks.

Gloria always recommends Cotton House near the Oriental. A number of others have had good experiences there as well. I haven't (yet) tried Cotton House, but I'm sure I will some time.

cotton house is excellent as is js thai silk in the river city shopping center next to the sheraton....most any shop around town is good....the key is to have several fittings and to look carefully at the garmet during processing....know what you want and need before starting out...bring a sample of what you want if you have one...bring pictures...

I have used Miss Yai at JS silk as well as Julie and Moon at Julie's silk and cotton for several years. They both will make garments with your fabric or theirs. Julies is on New Rd across New Rd from the Oriental. I have found Julies for the best price, but they have limited fabric. JS silk has a nice supply of silks as well as garments to choose from. It may help if you mention my name-Gale Carson. When will you be in BKK?

I would also recommend that you do have a final fitting to pick up your completed garment. You have plenty of time - I have had several cocktail dresses made at the dressmakers in the Shangri La & was v pleased (they do beautiful embroidery on the bodice) but the last time I went there I was short of time and got them to post out the final items and they didn't fit perfectly, although the workmanship was still v good.

Stitchintime - my mother and mother-in-law were planning on going to JS Silks to have wedding outfits made for our wedding in Thailand this summer. May we mention your name as well?

I have used both JS Silk and Cotton House for years but recently only use Cotton House. I find their work of a much higher quality at a comparable price which does not mean there is anything wrong with JS Silk. I also used Julie's Silk once but was unhappy with the result so never went back

gloria - I am probably being a bit dumb, but do Cotton House work in silk as well as cotton?
Thanks

I have no idea why Cotton House is called Cotton House because they do very little in cotton. Most of what they do is silk and wool-- with silk being the most often used. This trip most of what I had made was cotton because that's what I needed but in the past everything was in either silk or wool.

bella...yes silk at cotton house as well...

use karen's and my name too at js thai silk...ms yai knows us very well..

in any case allow plenty of time if you can do it...at your travel times it should not be a problem as things are slower in summer...

I vote for cotton House. Talk to Da. I have had many things made there. The last time was Dec 2005/Jan 2006 when I had 13 pieces made...Asian style blouses all with handmade buttons and skirts...13 pieces in all and for 13,000 baht. I took my own material...100% cotton batik, 2 meter sarong pieces to have converted into the blouses and skirts. I also took in the blouse that I wanted copied and left it with Da. Every piece was perfection and I only had one fitting. I had her deliver everything over to my apartment..the other side of town...and there, as usual was no charge. Happy Travels!
