Dragon Beard Candy
Apart from the airport, where might I buy this in Hong Kong? I will be based in Kowloon at the Salisbury YMCA.
Thank you. |
Well, one place is over on the Kowloon side at the Excelsior Hotel at either the Expresso coffee shop or the Yee Tung Heen restaurant. But I think you might be better off asking at the front desk of the hotel, I am sure you can find shops closer to you on the Kowloon side which sell it. The Excelsior is basically in front of where they fire off the Noon Day gun every day, an interesting little typhoon harbour, the yacht club and the Causeway Bay shopping area if you are going over there. The hotel also have a very nice Asian-fusion restaurant on the top floor with a very good view, esp at night. The restaurant is called ToTT's Asian Bar and Grill. I often recco it, could combine the trip.

Sorry, the Excelsior is on the Hong Kong side....

Hello. This has piqued my interest. What is this candy and what's so special about it?
|
I don't like them. They stick to my teeth.
Anyways, they cook some sticky wheat syrup, and then pull it out of the pot. Solidifies like a string. Wrap it around and makes it a candy. Some add crushed peanuts to add flavor. Really hard to explain, but it's most fun to watch how it's made. Not that interesting to eat. |
I DO have a sweet tooth and I got curious, so I looked this candy up online - sounds wonderful - apparently it's also available in Singapore, so I hope to try it out on my next visit there.

I've tried the packaged stuff and, I don't know what it is, but whatever they use to keep it soft must have an effect because they just don't taste the same as the fresh dragon beard candy.

Those fancy packaged stuff are expensive!!!
