Domestic flights Vietnam
 

Hi all,

Next december we will be visiting Vietnam for 3 weeks and we plan to fly from Ho Chi Minh to Saigon at the beginning of the trip.

There is quite a difference between the ticket prices: Jetstar and Vietjet ~30-50USD, while Vietnam Airlines ~200USD.

However, the reviews of Vietjet and Jetstar I found online are very very bad, so I'm looking for some tips for domestic flights in Vietnam and experiences with the different flight companies.

i am flying vn air in november and booked directly with them hanoi to danang and return and have done it before also.

Vietnam Airlines seems to be fine, but I'm wondering how Jetstar or Vietjet are; they are a lot cheaper but also receive very bad reviews

We flew Vietjet from Saigon to Dalat last Friday morning.
No problems at all, same service as Air Asia.
Vietjet even have their own Domestic terminal at Saigon Airport.

Flying Vietnam Air to Danang tomorrow morning. I'll report how that went.

Vietjet and Jetstar are both budget airlines. Those who booked the fights without realizing that these were budget airlines may have been disgruntled. VN Air is a full service airline. That is the difference.

The Vietjet extras such as luggage are a minimal cost if booked online. Vietnam Air include 20kg as standard.

Vietjet Air and Jetstar are famous for delay and change schedule all the time. Vietnam Airlines is more expensive but you got your flights at right time. If the schedule to another destination to catch up with tight schedule, you had better choose Vietnam Airlines. Have fun

Our experince on Vietnam Airways today was fine. The turboprop took off from Dalat on time and landed at Danang on time, 75 minutes in the air.

Only disappointment was that all we got in the air was 355ml bottle of water, not even a cup of coffee. So much for offering a full service!

Lol, full service in regards to airlines generally means that they have an included luggage allowance, no charge for seat assignments and that they will transfer luggage from flight to flight. It has nothing to do with food service.

Full Service should include a meal [or snack], and a drink. And as the Vietnam Air flight was a lot dearer than Vietjet, then they must include the luggage and selected seat into the pricing. No need to transfer luggage on internal only flights.

This is a breakdown of our 2 internal flights so far for 2 people...

- HCMC to Dalat with Vietjet.
Price £45. Included 15kg each asa payable extra Didn't pay extra to select seats, and we were allocated seats together. Vietjet have their own Domestic Terminal at HCMC, which is v.comfortable and efficient. Aircraft was clean, cabin crew smart and efficient. 30 minute flight. Flight on time.

Dalat to Danang with Vietnam Air.
Price £90. Included 20kg and seats as standard.
Clean aircraft [turboprop]. Cabin crew didn't have much to do apart from dish out a small bottle of water to each passenger. 75 minute flight. Flight on time.

Got an email from Vietjet yesterday telling us our final internal flight from Danang to HCMC on 25 September has been put back by 2 hours.

Not a problem as we haven't got an international flight to connect with. But it highlights the real hazard of taking an internal flight followed by an international flight on the same day.

Flights on Vietnam Airlines are considerably less expensive if you book through their website directly. They are still more expensive that Vietjet or Jetstar, but more like double the price, rather than 10x.
