Do i need shots for China?

My husband and I will be going to Hong Kong, Bejing, Xa'an, Guilin and Shaghai in Marc/April - do we need any kind of shots?

Unless you have all of your immunizations updated, of course you will need vaccinations.

I'd suggest that you begin by reading the info at www.cdc.gov/travel After thoroughly digesting that info, go visit a travel medicine or tropical medicine clinic. Usually your family doc will have absolutely no idea about travel medicine.

At a minimum you will need the usual vaccines that everyone should have just to stay at home like diptheria/tetanus and boosters for childhood illnesses (measles, mumps, rubella) depending on your age, as well as the usual "travelers vaccines" such as Hep A (which really, you should have even to stay at home) as well as typhoid.

Read all the info at the cdc carefully so you can ask good questions when your see the travel med doctor.

You don't need any shots, but you may want to have, especially if you're elderly or you don't travel or eat out often.

The places you're going are all highly developed, and have relatively good hygenic environment. It's really not too different than if you're traveling to San Franciso, New York City - where you'll be eating out, and will be in close contact with many people.
