do i go through immigration on hk layover?

hi...this is the first time i am travelling to asia , I am flying from South Africa to China, i do have a stop over in Hong Kong.
Do i have to pass through immigration's in Hong Kong international? or is that not necessary?
My layover is five hours , I plan to stay in the airport.

If you are staying airside (within the secure area) you will not go through Immigration.

If this is all on one ticket, you should get your boarding pass when you check in in South Africa and your luggage should be checked through to your final destination. If it is on two separate tickets, it's a bit more complicated. What airlines are you flying?
