Diving in Bali?

Does anyone know how good the diving is in Bali - especially in November?

I haven't been but I've always read the beach and marine life is very disappointing in Bali. Red Sea and Great Barrier Reef are the only two world class dive spots IMO.

I've been diving all over the world and you should give diving in a big miss. Visibility is bad and the reefs are not interesting. There are two halfway decent sites though -- Lovina Beach (walk off the black beach) and Tulamben (shipwreck) -- but they are in the far far north of the island.

If you do decide to dive - be careful what dive centre you choose. My husband experienced dived with the 'dive school' at the Nusa Dua Beach Hotel, only to find that their equipment was damaged etc. The opposite, however, was true of the Bali Hai cruise divers.
