Diving in Bali

Hello all. Anyone been scuba diving in Bali? Recommendations on good sites and and a good dive tour operator would be appreciated. Thanks/Aarti.

The best dives are in the Great Barrier Reef, and in Male, but I am sure you'll find someone who has dived in Bali as well and tell you about it. Enjoy, just pulling your leg.

Naresh ( Aarti's father )

Aarti, I suggest you post this question at www.balitravelforum.com - the favourite "haunt" of Bali lovers.

Hi Aarti,

I have been diving in Bali. We stayed at the Hyatt in Sanur and dove (dived?) with a dive operation through the hotel. Most of the operations seem pretty reputable but I would definitely go with a shop associated with a hotel. I can't remember what dive sites we went to, but in general the dive trips are for a whole day and you will have one dive and then move sites and have another dive (two tanks are provided for everyone). We were there in August and what I remember most is the current. The current around all of the islands was very fast, so all dives are drift dives and there is very little time to see things, we were really zipping by. I'm not sure if this was a function of the weather when we were there or the time of year, but worth checking out. As far as what we saw, it was very good diving, however, our outfit let too many people come along, make sure you pick a group that caps the number of people on a dive. Have been diving in other places in Asia and still the best has been the Philippines.

Have fun and be safe.

Hi Alison, first of all thank you for your input. I heard about the currents (in fact from a few other people too) and im a little concerned. Hope i find the right spot and the right people. It is reassuring to hear the marine life is good (decent) because that more than makes up for other stuff :)! August is usually a good time to go to Bali so im keeping my fingers crossed and hoping to make some interesting dives...

Regards/Aarti

P.s- if you dont my asking, where did you dive in the philippines?
