Discounted watches and jewelery

I have heard HK is a good place to get hi end watches and jewelery at reduced prices. Is this so and how does it compare to duty free Carib. ports? Thanks, Larry

I can't compare with Caribbean ports, but Hong Kong is a duty-free territory where many luxury items can be bought for lower prices than in the West. However, to get the best price you must be quite clear on what you want, down to the finest detail (and know its price at home), and be prepared to give up a couple of days for bargaining.

A Cartier watch, for instance, may be bought for only 2/3rds its US price, half its Japanese price, and possibly better, but it will take quite some travelling between various jewellers to achieve that. You'll need to specific right at the beginning of each negotiation which model you want, automatic or electrically driven, what payment method you'll use, etc.

Keep in mind, too, that you'll need to pay duty on such a highly-priced item when you return home, or risk being caught smuggling.

I still find the internet the best place too buy fine watches. I lookied at some watches in hk and the I wasn't too impressed by prices off course I didn't make my self clear that I was activally looking too buy a watch so I was just getting the retail pice..

in general I saw the Ulysee nardin seems too be big in HK.. off course Rolex are foiund everwhere but I don't even bother with them. actually swiss watches seem too dominate market.. I was looking for a German watch and they were hard too find eexept for ocasional Glausiet Original (sp).

there is a prity good mid tier watch shop in the huge mall next too the star ferry but prices were no big deal..

To Orgy7. Personally i stay away from the www for hi enders unless they come from authorized dealers. As f or german watches try this: www.marcelloC-watches.com. This is a German watch that uses Swiss movements. These are terrific! for 1/10th the cost you get a watch that compares very favorable with my Rolex and in fact has a better clasp, at least IMO.

To Orgy 7: I like to window shop too, but pulling the trigger is better! Cheers, Larry. BTW if you like to just talk watches or hang out with other guys like that go to: www.pmwf.com.
