What is the best way to get Korean Won?

Hi everyone,

We are going to S. Korea from the US. What is the best way of getting Korean Won? Get it before we go? Local Airport currency counter? ATM?

Thanks!!

Get your won after you arrive in Korea, from an ATM or an exchange counter. Getting it before you go will assure that you get the worst possible exchange rate.

Visa and Mastercard are accepted at large hotels, restaurants and department stores. Smaller establishments will want won.

A Korean bank ATM is best. Exchange counter in Korea is second best.

I used to get mine at the airport when I arrived. Changed over my money there. Just after you get your luggage, and before you leave the cutoms hall, there are banks there.

No problems with credit cards, AMEX , DINERS etc at most hotels, from 5 star to 3 star around Korea.

They have cash machines in Korea, but, I do re-call, that sometimes I did have some problems in finding a machine for overseas cards. Still though,I always seems to get by.

With regards to credit cards in Seoul, I always paid taxis in cash.
