Dinner this Sunday night in Bangkok
 

We are getting ready to leave for our trip to Burma and have been so focused on the logistics there that I haven't done enough planning for our 2 days in Bangkok. On Saturday night we are doing the Chinatown food tour (thanks Michael for the recommendation) but I would love some suggestions for Sunday night. I would prefer to have Thai food rather than anything Western since its been almost 4 years since we've been to Thailand. We're staying at the Mandarin Oriental and would rather go "out". Thanks everyone!

A short walk from the Oriental is Tongue Thai. It is a favorite of Bob's, though the one time we ate there (with Bob and Karen) the food was rather bland.

Yes, we ate at TT a few years ago, I would prefer to go elsewhere this time. I'll look into Lana Thai.

My current very very favorite Thai restaurant in Bangkok is Gedhawa on Sukhumvit 35. It's a northern Thai restaurant, and it's really good. Last time I was there, all the other customers were Thai, which I think is always a good sign with Thai restaurants. Oh, and it's actually on the cheap side as well.

Suk. 35 is at the Promphong BTS station. There's a big construction site across the road from Emporium (it's "Emporium II") and 35 runs up one side of it. Go up well past the construction site and Gedhawa is on the right at a "T" intersection.

Oh, if you don't want to go that far, I'd also recommend Ruen Urai, behind the Le Meridien on Suriwong Road. It's next to the Rose Hotel, so use the soi beside the Le Meridien. The restaurant is in an old Thai house, and while it's tourist-oriented it's still very good and spicy.

we like tongue thai..its simple, comfortable and has a good restaurant.. it is on the soi that runs directly in back of OP Place behind your hotel... don't miss the chicken cashew and mnorning glory with garlic.

How about the Methavalai Sorndaeng? Its good food and not too expensive either.

The Siam is still in soft opening.

I always like Kinnaree on Sukhumvit soi 8. Nice setting, good variety on the menu.

And yes, Face is also very nice!

Just online planning and booking the resturants we are going to eat at. The rest we will decide once there.

Four Seasons do a great brunch which is apparently one of the must do things in Bangkok.

There is also the Royal Dragon Restaurant which serves food via flying fox, walking on water and roller skates. Looks quite fun!

Long story, you'll read about it in my report, many flight delays and finally arrived at 5am this morning, after travelling for almost 36 hours from dc. We switched our Chinatown tour to Sunday because we thought we might not get here until tonight. So we are trying for la table de tee, we'll see if we can get an early reservation. Not sure what our second choice will be, we don't want to go too too far from the hotel beccause we might be crashing. Will update, I promise.
