DIM SUM -- BANGKOK???

Where I come from dim sum or yum cha is Chinese food, not Thai, although am sure it can be found in Bankgok somwhere. But why, when there's so much excellent Thai food in Bangkok?

I think the Conrad's Chinese restaurant has one of the best dim sum in town at the moment. At the other 5 star hotels most of the Chinese restaurant is pretty good but last week I tried the Conrad and the dim sum was excellent.

pat--when you are in thailand for 30 days you tend to like some variety...i have had excellent dim sum on past trips and hoped to have some again...

don't worry if you see my posts, i patronize plenty of thai restaurants in bkk....and lots of non-thai as well...

you will be shocked that i plan to have indian food, italian food and yes even a mcdonald while there

The Greenhouse restaurant on the ground floor of the Landmark hotel has excellent dim sum served from an a la carte menu. I would like to try Conrads though - where is it and do they serve it every day or just Sunday lunchtimes?

Also how much per plate is the Dim Sum at these restaurants and do they come around with the carts to choose from or do you have to order from the menu?

The dim sum at the Conrad is served every lunch time at their Chinese restaurant - forgot the name and there is only one. Dim sum is a la carte and they are about $2 per serving.

The Conrad Hilton is located on Wireless Road, same road as the US embassy. The dim sum is order from the menu.

Dim sum in Bkk...one of my favs...great stuff, Bob, ENJOY...Mei Jiang at the Pen - have to order off a menu, not unlimited...Baiyon at the Banyan Tree - unlimited, also great view of Bkk as on the 59th floor...Shanghai 38 at the Sofitel, silom, great view again - I rated their service a notch above Banyan Tree...quick dim sum at the food court at Central - not bad at all.

now i have a great list....imagine eating dim sum in thailand!!!!!!

banyon tree is on sathorn or maybe on silom....it used to be the westin banyon tree....

i have not seen sim sum in carts in bkk in the past...some on buffets and mostly from a menu

Banyan Tree is at Sathorn. Fairly central location. Unlimited dim sum menu at lunch time plus some buffet items was I think 500 baht (about US$14) per head. Open only for lunch. The Hilton at Nailert Park very near Central, Chidlom, now Raffles also has a Chinese food retaurant. They serve from carts - or at least used to, Do not know what the new mgt will do. Same price range as Banyan Tree.

Have Dim Sum at the Penn's Chinese restaurant- its very very good and the service is outstanding and the price is very reasonable given that it is a 5 star hotel.

another 2 places -

1. The Chinese restaurant on the ground floor of the "Grang Diamond" - petchburi Rd, near "Pantip Plaza"...
They have a buffe of DimSum for around 400 Baht a head. I would not reccomand the buffe - order from the menu what you like, it will become better and cheaper.

2. MK Restaurant (in all Shopping Centers arounf Thailand...) - during Lunch hours they have a trolly full of DimSum bamboo's - very good. also have full menu.

As a rule...it's always better to go to local places than to fancy foriegn places...60 Million Thai's can't be wrong...

Dim Sum at China House in the Oriental Hotel is outstanding. Served 7 days a week at lunchtime. It is also very reasonable.
