I've heard that Thailand is reputed to have some of the best dentists in the world. Very well educated, sterile conditions, and inexpensive.<BR><BR>Any recommendations for veneers? Preferably Bangkok? Thanks.

I second that, Bumrungrad I rate way above any other dental service I have been to 'anywhere' in the world..they were marvelous and basically saved my teeth!

You do not normally need an appointment. 'Mike's Place' is a 2-star hotel just around the corner but I don't think they have a website. If you are looking for 4-star then the Dusit is nearby. But any cntral hotel will do, maybe 'Hanuman' can help better on that one. When you get to the hospital just register at the reception. They give you a card and you go to the dental center. It's like a huge 5-star place.<BR>Dentists are very different. They tend to ask what 'you want' as opposed to 'telling you' what they think. Be prepared for this. The great bonus I liked was that they don't mind your husband/friend comming in with you which really helps in feeling relaxed.<BR>If you have x-rays etc bring with you.<BR><BR>You pay 'nothing' for a consultation! Otherwise you pay by credit card. An extraction cost about $30. Not the cheapest but certainly the best.<BR><BR><BR><BR>

Mike's Place is a bit run down so here are some more options for you.<BR><BR>Hotels that are close by: Landmark and JW Marriot - good restaurant. As Saray has mentioned there are also numerous other hotels that are close to the Bumrungrad hospital so it depend on your need.<BR><BR>Try doing the online appointment for your dentist. They usually confirm within 24 hours if not try faxing them.

What area of Bangkok is the hospital located in, in terms of locating a hotel?<BR><BR>Do you find it a bit odd that 2 emails have not been answered? Perhaps fax is the way. <BR><BR>Do you have any idea how long veneers or crowns take, and what they might cost? Many thanks.

Intrigued by this thread. I wasn't planning a trip to Thailand in the near future. Is it worth it financially to go for a 'quickie' (a week), just to get dental work done? I, too , am curious how much veneers would be there. Aren't they about $1000 a tooth in the States?

I can not quote you the prices for all the dental treatments and I think that should come from the hospital itself. <BR><BR>If email doesn't work then fax or even call them up and just beware that Thailand is GMT + 6 or 7 hours. They have English speaking staff who can help you with everything.<BR><BR>Bumrungrad Hospital is situated on a side street(soi) from Sukhumvit road. The hospital is a stone throw away from the express way so it's very convenient. Perhaps you can even ask the staff at the hospital if they have any hotels nearby with special rates for the hospital's patient.<BR><BR>Hope this help.<BR><BR><BR>

Very rough idea of costs, a tooth cap about $30 to $40. I had cleaning, 2 teeth filled and some kind of smoothing out of some sharp bits and the total bill was rough guess $55, but that was in Chiang Mai dental place. The costs are certainly not in the same league as the States or Europe.

Do you remember the name of the place in Chiang Mai? Was the work done in one day or did you have to go back for several visits? How much in advance did you have to schedule an appointment? Would I be nuts to head over there just to get dental work done? Thanks for any help!

Am I the only one on the planet that thinks going to a dentist in Thailand is unacceptable and unsafe? A dentist is so personal. How could any of you even consider this direction with something so important as your teeth...you smile? We live in San Diego and we know a few that go south of the boarder for their dentistry. First of all, their caps are all different colors and some look like chicklets. I guess I care more about my teeth and my health than to go to Thailand. If I needed expensive dental work, I'd skip exhortic vacations for a few years and go to the best in the states. You people are really brave.....or I'm just chicken. Sanitation? I get upset now when I go to my own dentist if he touches something with his rubber gloves before he touches my mouth!!!! Be very careful. I guess everyone has their priorities in life. Keep smiling!!!!

Maureen, I think you're being quite judgmental about a topic that you clearly haven't researched.<BR><BR>It's true; Thai dentists are indeed among the best in the world. The people on this board aren't referring to some back alley teeth pulling on a remote village road. <BR><BR>The recommendation for Bumrungrad is quite accurate. One of the best facilities in the world.<BR><BR>Besides, do you really think the absolutely enormous expat population in Thailand fly back to thier home country when they need medical or dental assistance?

It is thanks to Bumrungrad Hospital that I still have most of my teeth. A dentist in Australia decided that I needed the majority of my teeth removed, I went through sheer agaony and huge bills. I turned chicken and when back in Bangkok, went straight to Bumrungrad. I only need 3 extractions and it all went smooth, 4 years later....what do you think the dentists in Thailand are? Why do you pressume that because it is not Europe or the US that it would be unhygenic? Why do you pressume that it will not be equal to the standards elsewhere. I rate the medical doctors very highly too.

I had to have emergency dental treatment in Bangkok last year &amp; I went to a dental hospital recomended by the manager of the Indra Regent Hotel. It was 5 mins. walk from the hotel, I can not remember the name of the hospital but it was 1st class treatment &amp; the dentist spoke very good english. The cost was a fraction of what it would have cost in Australia. My advice to Phoebe is go ahead &amp; do it &amp; have a good holiday at the same time.

This is awesome, I'm going to Thailand in 2 weeks and I'm in need of dental work! It's too expensive to get my dental work at home since I don't have have any coverage. However, you all speaking of more &quot;complex&quot; dental work such as caps and veneers - I just want to get some cavities filled...i don't suspect this should be a problem? Would I able to get a full examination of my teeth along with x-rays? How much would this cost...I'm so happy!

If you go in to get a cavity filled they will generally 'take a good look around' anyway. One thing perhaps not mentioned is that I would stick to the major places, Bumrungrad in Bangkok for example otherwise you should not just run into any small dentist near the beach! Then language problems might well come into play.

we toured the Bumrungrad Hospital in november..my wife is an RN at a major boston teaching hospital and the boston globe had an article on it last spring; so we e mailed for a tour...karen spencer-hartley, an englishwoman, from the PR deptartment spent over an hour with us...the hospital is american accrediated, the only one in bkk to be so...it is jointly owned by the bank of bangkok and a very wealthy thai family, plus minority stockholders..<BR>we found it just fabulous and my wife looked at the eqpt and found it to be 1st class and up to date...<BR>the royal suites...5 rooms is only $300 day vs thousands and thousands in the usa for a single room...there are cheaper rooms as well of course...a regular lux room is about $100 all inclusive, except doctors who are also very reasonable<BR>they have a hotel attached to the hospital for patients and families and a special women's treatment building..<BR>e-mail them again...they answered mine in a day or two at the most....<BR>i would not wait until i got there to contact them....<BR>great place for cheap plastic surgery...we are doing it next trip there...<BR>location...near sukumvit road, between soi 1 and soi 3 as i remember...<BR>i would stay at the jw marriott, a 5 minute walk...soi 2 sukumvit road...$90 a nite currently for pre paid rate---5 star hotel...great central location as well..i would be leary about chiang mai treatment and any other places unless i knew quite a bit about them---but i would not think twice about this facility...
