we will be in India for a month and I was looking into getting dental implants since they are at least one third the price . Has anyone had this done and is there more risk involved with the procedure. can anyond recommend a dental surgeon

I may be wrong, but it is my understanding that you should wait 3 - 4 months following implanting in your jaw to attach the teeth. Complications include failure to integrate into your bone, fracture, breakage, inflammation, infection, nerve damage, sinus or nasal cavity damage...supposedly these sorts of complications occur in about 5% of patients and more often in patients of less experienced practitioners. Most complications are usually easily remedied, but not all.

Keeping in mind that I would want a dentist with significant experience doing my implants and I would want to have access to the same dentist should any problems arise, not to mention the wait between implanting and attaching teeth (and until you attach teeth, you aren't really sure if you are happy with the result, right?), I would opt to have the procedure at home.

Although this website is one of a dentist, it has very good information for anyone considering the option of implants. I'm not saying this particular dentist is good or bad...just that the information given on the website is accurate and useful, and worth having a look at.

yes i realize you have to wait for crown to be made but i was thinking of just getting the implants but I probably will get it done at home. Just wondering if other people had them done in India. thanks for your input

KimJapan is correct. My dentist said there is an even greater wait if bone has to be replaced, eight months. Implantation is very complicated, not as simple as it sounds.
