Delta to Bangkok via Tokyo?

Am planning a 2 week trip to Thailand from Atlanta using FF miles for business class. If I can get on Delta's non-stop thru Japan, is that my best option? (I have Amex, Continental,Delta miles but not American FF miles---Singapore Air is a useless exercise in trying to get seats) Also, is it worth a day stopover to go into Tokyo? Thanks for your help!

Try business class on Malaysian Air. The route isn't as good but the flight itself will be about 200% better. Business class on Delta is awful. Business class on Malaysia is a joy. Malaysia's cabin crew have been named best in the world for the past several years.

Tokyo is a very interesting and exciting city. Only problem is that NRT is kind of far from the city. But you should find a stopover interesting.
However, you may find it hard to get the NRT-BKK leg on NW when you're flying your main leg on DL.

A better itinerary is to fly on Korean, ATL-ICN-BKK. It's a Skyteam member, so you can you use DL or CO miles. On the return, BKK-ICN is a red-eye, but it shouldn't matter if you're flying business. In fact, it's probably better than having to catch NW's 6:00am departure out of BKK.

Korean Air should have better service than DL/NW. But some people still remember their less-than-stellar safety records in the 80's and 90's.

I'm one of those who remember Korean's safety record which is why I used my miles to fly Malaysian.

Another thought. If you have AmEX miles you could transfer them to US Air and fly either Thai Airways or ANA and you will only need to use 90,000 miles instead of the 120,000 you need on Delta and its partners.

I love glorialf's idea!

if you try amex, thai has a new flight after may direct from nyc....you could connect there easily from atlanta...

Anything but DELTA.. busness class is considered just about the worst in the industry.

Thanks all---will check with US Airways right away since those options sound great.
