Delhi/Rajasthan-Cancel??

A while back, there were a lot of people on the board planning Golden Triangle trips to Delhi/Agra/Jaipur, etc. for February time. Are you still planning to go? We had a trip planned to that area of India and then the Maldives. We are cancelling the Maldives (one resort is gone) but are trying to decide whether or not to still go on the rest of the trip. I am torn about what to do. I wouldn't think there would be any reason to cancel the Golden Triangle portion but everyone seems to be questioning our decision. Thanks.

HI, I don't see why you would want to cancel..Those areas are not near the devastation..I would still go..Were in that area in Oct/Nov and had an awesome time...

No way are we cancelling our trip to Delhi/Agra/Jaipur/Ranthanbore in February. Fortunately, we had not planned any beach time in India.

Continue with yoru trip and if you want to add some beach time you can consider one of the resorts in Goa - the Taj Exotica, the Leela or the Hyatt. More boutique options too.

I don't think you should even consider cancelling; in fact, you now have all the more reason to proceed. India can always use the tourist dollar, but never more so than right now. As well as having a wonderful time, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that your money will really count towards the rehabilitation of one of the devastated countries.

Why should you cancel. Rajastan and Delhi are thousands of miles away from the disaster area. And you can easily find an alternative for the Maldives to chill out after the dusty trip in Northern India. Why do you not try out Kerala?

Please don't even think a minute about cancelling Rajasthan. Delhi is a hole. I would fly straight into Udaipur and train it or fly from there. We flew out of Udaipur 36 hours ago into Delhi and have to say that even though the news from Chennai, Port Blair and several other east coast resort towns and islands is bad, Rajasthan remains busy and full of travellers from everywhere, enjoying the perfect weather and the wondrous sites of the state. Go and laugh a lot and don't expect stuff to happen on time, watch out for cow shit and don't hire a car and driver. Get the train, take a bus if you have to, or fly. The maniacs in the road trucks nearly killed us so many times we are now praying regularly. Last week 9 people were killed and ten people were taken to hospital, all from one vehicle, yep, 19 people in one Jeep avoided a head-on accident and hit a tree instead. Blew us away! Have fun!

Thanks everyone. That is what I am thinking too. Have to decide if we will extend our stay in India or come home and go to a beach resort near us for a few days...

I'm leaving March 18 for the Golden Triangle and didn't even consider not going. I would guess that the people you claim as "everyone seems to be questioning our decision" are people who rarely travel and probably wouldn't even walk into a restaurant by themselves. At least those are the types of people who have asked me if I still am planning on going to India! Have fun and post your report.

Yes, most of the concerns are from people who don't travel much but also our parents. But, I think they would be worried no matter where we go :)
I will post our report..We are actually keeping everything the same except we are spending 5 nights in the Maldives now rather than 7 (since one of our resorts is closed) and spending 2 nights in Dubai afterward on our way home.
If anyone has any restaurant suggestions in Agra or Jaipur that would be great.
Thanks.
