We are all waiting for the climax to this thriller. Is he or is he not in Mumbai yet? :-)

dutyfree Jun 29th, 2007 10:11 AM

Haven't heard from him yet but I called the airline that took him to Mumbai and it landed there today at 348PM and his Kingfisher flight was rescheduled for 555PM departure to Delhi so am hoping that all the connections were met. Have I mentioned that the major headache and backache from sitting at the computer for two days is now gone? Is it too early for red wine..........I will add to this post when I hear from him. Now I only have to worry about malaria, traveler's diarrhea,Japanese Encephalitis and "cobra bites"(just kidding!)

Attention Fodors Friends-just received a phone call from the son advising me that he has arrived in Delhi. His flight had to hold in Mumbai due to rain and then customs took longer so he missed the flight with others to Delhi. He rebooked on the 905PM flight and just arrived at midnight Indian time.Just took about 3 days from Chicago to Delhi!

Kathie Jun 29th, 2007 12:29 PM

Oh, I'm so glad he is finally thre! What a nightmare trip. Well, he'll be prepared for the inevitable delays in India!

Champagne is the appropriate drink for his arrival - drink up!

Fantastic! As Kathie said he has an excellent preparation India!

Good, I am glad he has reached Delhi and hopefully Dehra Dun also, I was thinking of your son when heard of Mumbai rains.

Like said earlier he has been prepared for delays in India. He will be fine in Dehra Dun (fingers crossed, the way his journey started). You don't have to worry for malaria and other things, most of it is precautions of food and water. He may start drinking tea(chai) boiled milk, water, sugar and tea leaves there. Which is safe for this long stay.

Good Luck.

Nimi-Have you been to Hardiwar? He will be living in Deehra Dun but commuting over there to help start up a new office for microfinancing. He has an apartment with patio opening to courtyard in a guest house and seems to be happy in his emails thus far.Keeping my fingers crossed as a worried mom.........thanks for all the good thoughts everyone!

Haridwar (lit. the Hari's door - Hari is another name for Krishna) is a major Hindu pilgrimage town. I think lots of Westerners go there now. If this is going to be an everyday commute it will be a 1.5 hours drive each way by car.

dutyfree Jul 3rd, 2007 10:59 AM

Oh-thats not good. Haven't heard when he starts that commute but it brings a smile to my face as a mom. He complained about commuting into Chicago an hour each way on the train to his job before he left for India!

Just thought that I would file an update on the son..........he just came home for two weeks to get a work visa as he will be living and working in Dehradun and Delhi permanently now. He loves India and the culture, people, etc. and has accepted a job there. Never saw that coming!!!

Cicerone Dec 21st, 2007 06:29 AM

Funny, I did......

thursdaysd Dec 21st, 2007 07:17 AM

Thanks for the update, dutyfree. Now you'll just have to visit him again, no?

dutyfree Dec 21st, 2007 07:58 AM

Cicerone-how did you know that was coming? Do we have any other psychic imput I should know such as where he is going to get his MBA in a year or so-please tell this poor MOM who is always out of the loop!
He does seem very happy with his life right now so I am pleased.

Actually, my daughter and I are trying to fly into Mumbai in February to meet him and do Goa and southern India for a shorter visit. We are still trying to get the father figure to join us but hard to tell if he will actually go.The long flight from JFK will probably do him in?

Cicerone Dec 21st, 2007 08:31 AM

I would say look out for an Indian girlfriend coming into the picture at some point.....India is a country that grabs some people quite tightly and does not let go, the fact that he wanted to do this in the first place was kind of an indication to me.

He may have been Indian in a previous incarnation.

dutyfree Dec 22nd, 2007 06:04 PM

He has given up his mother's beloved BBQ ribs and steak on the grill for lentils, curry and lassi.
Perhaps he was an Indian in his first life although with his blonde hair and blue eyes.....I wonder?

what a fascinating thread this is - started with a mom's mundane concern about son's travel details and ends up with psychic, metaphysical and re-incarnation discussions!

wow! Only with India!
