Dealing with Hot Temps in Beijing!
 

Ill be traveling to Beijing in a few days, and I spoke to a few people who have been already during the summer, they informed me that it was extremely humid and hot...I checked weather.com and it said that the temps would be between 90 and 100! That is very hot.. so are there any suggestions in how to deal with these crazy temps in this foreign country?- Thanks

Many people walk around with an umbrella. There are water/soft drink and ice cream stands everywhere. It is between 90 and 100 (32+ C) on most days a little southwest of Beijing. I heard that they typically do not report anything over 40 degrees because employers must cancel work if it gets that hot. It gets like this in the the midwestern US, so I'm used to it. Drink lots of water, bottled water that is. I would suggest always having some water with you. I'm no expert, but that's how I deal with it.

Start your day early and head back to the hotel in mid-afternoon for a break.

I have some very small washcloths that I wet in the evening and put in a plastic bag in the freezer of my refrigerater in the hotel. When I leave, I take them with me and put them on the back of my neck. Even when they thaw out the cool wetness still feels great. Also I put bottles of water in my freezer too, Great for drinking and putting the bottle on your neck too.
And I will add, I get up early and do as much as I can at that time.

Wear light coloured natural fabrics (cotton is best for me), loose fitting with three quarter length sleeves to keep the sun off delicate skin!
I have a lovely Japanese fan which I use if needed, and always carry thin damp towels as the others do.
Wear a hat! I use a cloth one, as it is absorbent, and can be easily washed.
