De Naga Hotel - Chiang Mai

I found this hotel on the internet and it looks really nice - anyone have any comments?
alternatively, we are looking for a hotel in Chiang Mai (city center) with a budget of -ideally- 100$/night.
we need a hotel that can either accomodate 4 per room (2 adults + child + teen) - or take 2 rooms within the budget...

we have been to Thailand in teh past and have stayed at beutiful hotels / resorts, and like nice places!!! this time, we will be staying mostly at hotels with point stays (Millenium Hilton BKK, Sofitel HH) and will need to book a hotel in CM without points, so therefore trying to make it not too expensive...

any leads - welcome!!

The place most often recommended here for a family room is Baan Orapin and it will be within your price range. Search for it here and you'll find dozens of comments. Note that you must make reservations directly with Baan Orapin.

Kathie - thanks for the recommendation.. i do remember reading about the Ban Orapin... problem is: my husband is a bit spoiled and is used to staying at better hotels on his business trips (company paid!) - my task right now is to work on a budget, and try to find a hotel thats very nice but up to 100$.
we stayed at the Yaang Come Village last time which was BEAUTIFUL but i see the rpices went up

One problem with 3 adults and a child is to find a hotel that will let 4 stay in one room. Even if you do, it will be cramped. So you are looking at 2 hotel rooms that are around $100 for both. This elimates Baan Orapin and De Naga.

Have a look at Maninarakorn (http://www.maninarakorn.com/map.html) It looks quite nice and the rates on http://www.sawadee.com/hotel/chiangmai/maninarakorn/ are very resonable.

Also look Amora Tapae Hotel,
Central Duangtawan, Chiang Mai Plaza, Imperial Chiang Mai and Suriwongse. All good 3 star hotels within your range.

You might also consider a 2 bedroom apartment. Have a look at Studio99
(http://www.chiangmaiservicedapartments.com/) for a 2 bedroom. Location is good. Be warned that even if it says a 2 bedroom they may charge extra for a 4th person. Best rate here http://www.sawadee.com/hotel/chiangm.../pictures.html

In that budget, I think you can get two good rooms at the Suriwong or Pornping.

But neither of those are probably going to be up to your husband's standards.

I still think Baan Orapin is your best choice. In its own way it is more deluxe than some of the 3 star large commercial hotels described and you can get one of their suites which should easily house 4.

Baan Orapin suite is only 44sqm and with an extra bed (which is 700 baht a night) It would be quite cramped. Much better to have two rooms or an apartment.

Good rate but it may not include breakfast if that matters to you.
