How do m you get to Wuzhen? How long is the travel time. I plan to do come back to Shanghai at night. Is this possible

Why not catch a train to Suzhou- we did it about a week and a half ago. We caught the train (20 Yuan) in the morning arrived about 45 minutes later and then had a very nice day exploring the tallest temple south of the Yangste and walking around the canal area. This is also supposed to be the place to buy silk.We ate in a local Korean BBQ restaurant and caught the 7.45pm train back. Recommend. If you are seriously considering doing this trip and want more info about buying ticket etc don't hesitate to ask.

Ruthlee-I don't know what happens to my computer. my words are:there are nonstop buses setting out from Shanghai southwest bus station to Wuzhen in the morning, 2.5 hours on the way and the ticket is about CNY30. There are also buses coming back from Wuzhen to Shanghai in the afternoon, but I think it’s not enough for a half day trip in Wuzhen.

Do you think a tour is the better way to? For a day trip ?

Sorry to jump in ... I'd like to go to Xitang instead of Wuzhen, in May 2007.

Nannan: can I catch a non-stop bus from Shanghai to Xitang from the same station (Shanghai South-West)? I read that it is about 1.5 hour driving. Alternatively, can I catch a train?

Do you know of a bus or train website for me to look at schedule and price? Thanks

Nannan Jan 21st, 2007 05:28 PM

Johnmango: there is no train arriving Xitang directly. You can get to Jiashan from Shanghai by train (about 1 hour on the way) http://www.xitang.org/xitangline.html (sorry there is no English version) and there are buses heading for Xitang dispatched from Jiashan bus station every 5 minutes (it is 10 kilos form Jiashan to Xitang). As far as I know there are no non-stop buses for Xitang from Shanghai south-west bus station but you can also take bus to get to Jiashan there first. There are tourist buses for Xitang directly dispatched form the Shanghai tourist collecting and distributing center (at Shanghai stadium).

Go to shanghai tourism centre, close to shanghai stadium, you can buy several routes' united ticket, coach+admission ticket, such as Zhouzhuang, tongli, wuzheng, etc, very convenient.

Nannan:

Sorry to be so pesky.

Those buses at the Shanghai Tourism center leaving for Wuzhen, Tongli etc. ... I can buy ticket and hop on - or do I have to join their tour to take the bus? We prefer to use the bus and go on our own.

I have no idea how to get to these places, but here are some "nearby" destinations we have on our list for visitors to Shanghai.

1. Suzhou. 100 km from Shanghai. Major sites are Humble Administrator's Garden, Lingering Garden, Tiger Hill Park, No. 1 Silk Factory. Note that "factory" prices are usually quite high. I've never been here because it sounded boring, but a colleague went there last weekend and said he recommended it.

2. A water town:
-Jiaozhi
-Nanxun: 120 kilometers to the west of Shanghai, 65 kilometers to the south of Suzhou and 125 to the north of Hangzhou
-Tongli: hour drive outside of Shanghai
-Wuzhen
-Xitang: Bus journey is about 2 hours from Shanghai.
-Zhouzhuang: 80km from Shanghai/30km from Suzhou
-Luzhi: 65km from Tongli. http://www.shanghaihighlights.com/neighbours/luzhi.html

3. Chongming Island

4. Cold Hill Temple: 65km North of Shanghai and can be combined with Suzhou or Zhouzhuang. http://www.world66.com/asia/northeas...nghai/daytrips

5. Songjiang County. (from same site as #3)

6. Hangzhou: 220km southwest to Shanghai, requires 4 hour drive.
