Day Trips from Krabi area
 

We are currently in Ao Nang until the weekend. Any suggestions for day trips from here? We have been reading that Phi Phi is totally overrun with tourists and nit best tomtry and explore it as a day trip? What about Railay or Lanta? how about a self drive and then a boat to Phang Nga Bay Park? thanks

I was there in November for 4 nights and we hired our own private longtail boat every day. The big tours are way too packed with people. One day we went to Railay (no need for a private longtail for that), another day we did a 4-island tour (amazing) and another day we went to Hong Island (also amazing!). I don't recommend seeing Phi Phi as a day trip unless you really want to see it and this trip is your only trip to Thailand you will ever make.

Also, arrange with a driver for the "Tiger Temple" (no tigers.. only lots of monkeys)and the emerald pool. No need for a boat for these places. You can swim in the pool.

You can see lots of monkeys at the end of Ao Nang Beach near the path to go to the Centara hotel. I thought they were scary so I kept my distance but I saw tons of people feeding them.

we also hired a boat and went out to several of the local islands, including at least one in the national park. go early.. the beach was fantastic, the rock formations amazing and the day was one of our best thai days ever...

5500 B for the day in 2009... expensive but worth every cent... much bigger boat than a bkk long boat.. 4 of us went and as i said it was one of our best days EVER!!
