day trips from Hua Hin?

Can anyone recommend good trips? Is it possible to go to the floating markets from there? What about the River Kwai? Would appreciate any ideas.

Yes, the floating market is about 2 hours, it is an early start because it is a morning market. River Kwai is 3 hours away, again, an early start, I would take the trip that is 2 days and 1 night, costs about $45 including hotel at River Kwai, it is worth the 2 days and less of a rush. Sam Roi Yot national park is only 1 hour away so day trip is fine, also boats on Pranburi River was pleasant. There are trips to a 'real' orchaid farm, not the small tourist places but a real large 'farm' that has hundreds of acres of orchids. Favorite day trip was Bang Saphan, a couple of hours, then a 10 minute ride on a boat to Talu Island and snorkeling, all the gear is provided, lunch on the beach, lovely. You can fly to Samui in 1 hour so you can do a 2 day trip there. Lots of other day and half day trips into the Mountains, the trip to Burma was cancelled because of some political problems when we were there. Almost forgot, the Pineapple Plantation excursion is more interesting than you might imagine, did you know they make paper from pineapples? It was really enjoyable and very interesting. In Huahin itself go to see the Muay Thai boxing and also the Cabaret show at Grand Plaza.

The Kao Sam Roi Yot (sorry - no doubt spellt totally wrong) national park is an interesting day trip. Hire a car and drive round it - completely deserted beaches, go exploring in the caves etc.

Hi! I will be in Thailand in November and have booked various day trips. 1) Hua Hin and surrounding areas 2) Floating market and surroundinng area 3) Crocodile farm and ancient city 4) River kwai and Ketchenurri area 5) Sukothai and Attuyatha I believe that's all for day trips - the rest is planned to take us all over the country for about 10 days.

Yes the national park is a must ( really deserted beaches!) and of course the River Kwai. The trip to Koh Talu island for snorkelling is fun too.

Hi Ingrid, Just read your message and have some questions. My husband and I are going to Thailand for our first visit in November. We aren't sure which way is best to see it. Should we take a full tour(16 day) or plan individual ones on our own? From my research, the price of great hotels is cheaper if you take the larger tours, but then you may miss some really good sites that the tours don't offer. Confused and need some suggestions. Must admit the pampering factor, ie baggage handling, etc. no fuss no muss, while touring with a company sounds good.

Debbie: I just read your post. I am going to email you individually, but wanted to let you know what we have decided to do: We did a lot of research and came up with a semi-customized tour that will allow us to see everything we want within the price range we set. We will basically be in Bangkok for five days with a private driver and guide seeing the sites in Bangkok. Then we will go off to a pre-packaged tour that will take us to Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son, Golden Triangle and so on. We will see hill tribes, explore caves, ride elephants, etc. After than 10 day trip, we go back to Bangkok and start the day trips to places around Hong Kong - Hua Hin, Kechebenchuri (Spell), River Kwai, Floating Market, Ancient City, etc. That's about three days. Then we go home. It is as complete and we could make it. We are using a company called ISRAM. I highly recommend them. They will customize anything you want. Small groups too. It's only going to be my husband and me for the first five days. We join a small group for the rest, if anyone else signs up for it. They guarantee departures for two people. I have an Isram review I just wrote on epinions.com, if you want to know more about them. Anyway, I am going to email you my complete schedule and pricing. Ingrid :-) BTW: We chose to stay at the Royal Orchid Sheraton while in Bangkok, on the concierge level. All rooms overlook the river. The Peninsula and Oriental would have been nice, but we don't plan on staying in the hotels too long to justify the higher prices. The Sheraton has received very high recommendations and is considered one of the best hotels in Bangkok. The pictures on the website look nice too.
