Day trip to Kanazawa from Kyoto?

Train one way is a bit over 2 hours. Is it reasonable to tour the highlights of Kanazawa when you arrive at the train station? Are there any drivers/guides or tour companies available there?

I can't remember the details, but we were there a few years ago with our kids. We came into town by train, and walked or used buses for most of our couple of days in Kanazawa. I think it is definitely worth an overnight, but suppose you could do a day trip.

It depends on what you want to see and experience. I spent 2 nights in Kanazawa and saw only the highlights.

We are planning to go to Kanazawa as well next month. I found a nice one-day Walking route on the Japan National Tourist Organization site (http://www.jnto.go.jp/eng/) for Kanazawa. It is very nicely mapped out, see if you find it helpful.
