20 days Itinerary Help!
Hello Everyone,
Two of us are planning a trip to Indonesia starting from May 11 for 20 days. Its our first time to Indonesia so we need your help & suggestions with the itinerary.
Our trip plan as of now is
Day 1-6 Bali (Kuta-Seminyak and the Legian areas of Bali), Ubud
Day 6-8 Fly from Bali to Labuan Bajo, Flores for Komodo National park
Day 9-11: Kanawa Island
Days 12-16: East Java to Yogyakarta Fly back to Bali from Labuan Bajo for East side of Java
We want to include the Borobudur temple so should we start our trip from Jakarta & head towards Bali? Please help! Thank You!

Unfortunately, I can't help with your routing questions -- I'm sure Fodor's wonderful experts on the area will provide excellent advice.
Even so, if you haven't seen it, you might find some useful information in my recent trip report:

Is your objective only to visit Central Java (Yogyakarta, Borobudur)? Or do you want to visit East Java (Mt. Bromo, Malang) as well? The best way to get from Surabaya to Yogya is to fly, but you can also take the train.
For Central Java you want to fly into Yogyakarta. For East Java fly into Surabaya. Whether you start in Jakarta or Bali the travel time is more or less the same. There are several flights every day. Wherever possible, try to fly Garuda or Air Asia.

Prateek I am also traveling to Labuan Bajo for the national park, but at a later date - please do share your experiences if possible
Marmot - would it be a shorter trip from Malang to Yogakarta by train or would it be faster to do a train journey to Yogakarta from Surabaya? I'm thinking of using either city as a start point to visit Mt.Bromo and then procede to Yogakarta

Leo_A, I don't know the train schedules but I believe the Yogya-Surabaya routes are faster and more frequent, though the distance is about the same as Yogya-Malang. You can also fly from Yogya to Surabaya, and, at certain times of the year, from Yogya to Malang.
Surabaya and Malang are quite different in other ways. Surabaya is large city of about 3 million people whereas Malang is a quiet town of about 800,000. There are quite a few archeological sites nearby.
You might also consider staying in the Mt. Bromo area instead of either Surabaya or Malang. The area is stunningly beautiful and it's good to be there after the sunrise crush. Java Banana is fairly basic but it's probably the best choice on the mountain. They will pick you up at the train station or airport.
When do you intend to travel there?
