Daughter and SIL Honeymoon in Thailand, ideas please

My daughter and soon to be Son-in-Law are both in the Army and stationed in Korea. They have been there for about 15 months now. They will be getting married in March then have an 8 day leave scheduled for their honeymoon in Thailand (April 1 - 8). They both love the outdoors, can handle harsh conditions if needed, but are looking for a place or two to spend their 6 full days in country. Nice beach bungalows would be perfect for a few days. They like unusual things, love the beach, wildlife. She has traveled a lot in various places around the world, for him- Korea is his first time outside the US. They are both in their mid-20s with a limited budget, but not "backpack tight".

Oh, and she outranks him, so if he gets a bit "mouthy" she can make him stand at attention or do sit-ups (just kidding). I kid him a lot about this.

So any and all ideas would be appreciated. Best methods of travel would really help, she is used to using mass transit. Thanks in advance. They can only go to Thailand, so Ankar Wat is unfortunately out of the equation.

Dave (you normally find me on the European side of the board)

April will normally be hot in Thailand which will be a nice change from cold Korea. I suggest a couple of days/nights in Bangkok follow with time at a beach or island.

Some of the beset beaches and island for that time of year are the Andaman sea area including Phuket, Krabi, Koa Lak etc. Another area is the Gulf of Thailand area Koh Samui, Koh Tao, Koh Nangyuan etc.

Once inside the country they can save money on transportation by using low cost airlines like Air Asia, Nok Air, Thai Smile etc.

For hotel bookings I suggest they see what fit their budget from web site like Sawasdee.com, Agoda etc.

While I love Hua Hin, I don't really envision it as a typical
honeymoon destination. Hanuman's suggestions are a great start.

A couple of days in Bangkok, and then head to Samui. As much as I like Phuket, I think Samui might be more adventurous. They can rent motorbikes or small car/jeep (at their hotel) and tour the entire island. Just don't drive like crazy fools...

Crystal Bay Resort is very reasonable and has its own mostly private beach. It does not have a pool, but the beach, and beach front accom is really nice. The small restaurant on site is quite good.

Another less expensive choice for hotel would be Seascape Resort. You can rent your vehicle right on site (we've done this). Seascape is on Chaweng Beach, which would be a good location for food and shopping and night life right outside the door. If they want slightly more upscale, Poppies is right next door and is closer to 4*. Seascape is 2* maybe 3* but very clean and right on the beach. It just depends on the budget! You can spend a lot more, to be sure.
