Damnoen Saduak or Amphawa Floating River Market??

My family and I are traveling to Thailand in early April and we would love to experience a floating river market. We are having trouble deciding which market would be best to visit (Damnoen Saduak or Amphawa) and we only have time in our trip for one. We would love to visit something that incorporates Thai culture (although we do understand neither of the two are necessarily "real" any more) as well as many options of local foods, clothing, and other souvenirs for decent prices. We would love to see lots of color and boats full of fruit as well as beautiful scenery, and experience that busy market vibe as close to authentic as we can. I have read that Amphawa is a longer drive from Bangkok than Damnoen but we would be willing to make the trip if necessary for the better experience. Please help us decide! Thanks!!

Amphawa provides the more "authentic" experience but it is a longer drive and ideally best done as an overnight stay so you can visit the markets before the day tours arrive. Damnoen Saduak is a bit of a theme park and gets a lot of tour groups.

I consider them both tourist traps, but Damnoen Saduak more than Amphawa.

Hi guys,

so, what do you suggest then? Which floating market is better and no† a tourist trap?

Read the reviews on TA for a few different viewpoints.
