Dalat or Dalat Indochine in BKK

We're doing some last minute planning for our trip next week. Which of these two vietnam restaurants do fodorites recommend? Better food, better atmosphere? And which one is which? I think they are both on Soi 23. Thanks.

There are two Dalats in Bangkok, but you are correct there is one on Sukhumvit 23 where the Indochine is also. The Dalat has been there for quite some time and for a number of years we lived next door to it. The Indochine, owned by the same people, opened some years ago, about 6 from memory.

They are both nice restaurants. The Dalat specializes in Vietnamese food, the Indochine offers more variety and I personally find it more attractive with a better ambiance.

Also housed in an old house on Soi 23, is Baan Kanika, which is a very good Thai restaurant.

cfw; i had a fabulous dining experience at dalat indochine. click on my name and read about my experience. i also critiqued the food. it was excellent.

reservations needed. order the spicy crab. don't forget, madame hoally can see verrry far.:-).

dalat is further down, and has a limited menu, and right across the street from the popular baan kanitha.

Ok I think that is a good decision! Just be a little careful!

The first time we went to the Indochine we had my eldest daughter and her husband with us, we were eating a dish that was wrapped up in a crepe, my wife suddenly said, “Just take one!”

Daughter and I looked at each other in amazement “What was she on about?”
Madam was actually addressing son in law who was adding three small green chilies to his mouthful. He spent the next 15 minutes outside trying to breathe.

I also ate at Indochine and give it a thumbs up. Very pleasant meal.
