Anyone gotten a visa on arrival in Lao in the last could months? I'm seeing different prices when I google around. If we get the visa from the Embassy now its $50. Thanks!

You can get a visa on arrival in Laos if you are traveling for tourism, have two passport-size photographs and pay $35

can you do this at border crossings as well as at airports?

Kathie Dec 24th, 2011 08:27 AM

Some land crossings do allow you to purchase a visa on arrival, some do not.

Oops - I hit post too soon. The Friendship bridge crossing from Thailand does allow visa on arrival.

Paying in Baht is silly as the exchange rate is poor. Pay in USD - $35.00 for Americans and most, $30.00 for Australians, $42 for Canadians, and free for Swiss.

And if you are arriving by plane ask them for ALL the forms on the plane. That way you can fill them in prior to arriving and save some time. ( most people didn't do this on our flight - especially as the attendants didn't actually offer the visa form up they just handed out the immigration ones but I asked them if they had a visa for, which they did)

Cost yesterday was $35 usd + $1 "service charge". We brought completed forms downloaded from internet. took maybe 10 minutes to get thru immigration.

yestravel, I forgot to thank you last night for the tip on printing off the visa form in advance and having it completed when we arrived! We did that before we left Siem Reap and it saved us a little time on arrival.
