Currency

Can I get Chinese currency before I leave home in the US? Where is the best place to get money there? Thank you for your help.

Probably not. And you wouldn't want to. Plan to get your Chinese currency from an ATM in the airport upon arrival. You will be assured of getting s good exchange rate.

I did so recently thru my bank. Chase bank got to to me in a day and the rate wasn't that bad, better that I thought. Also got Malaysian Ringitts too. I just got enough to cover a cab ride to our hotel.

Larry, do you always get currency before your trips?

I never do. Getting your local currency from an ATM on arrival is always the "best deal." And I've never had any problem finding an ATM in the airport on arrival.

My experience has been like Kathie's.

No. In fact this is the first time as I heard cabs in China don’t take cc’s.

@ jacketwatch: So how / why did having advance cash make a difference for you? why not just use an ATM at one of the many ATM machines at the airport?

jacketwatch Oct 31st, 2018 09:03 PM

I answered the OP’s question.

As for how and why I choose to get money to enter a country is personal preference obviously.

@ jacketwatch: Fair enough! Thanks for clarifying.
