Nepali agencies are working on this, including the US Embassy. If you have any contacts or information to help with our search please e-mail both [email protected] and [email protected]. If you have not posted this on Thorntree (the Lonely Planet site), please do.

I hope she soon contacts you.

Kathie - I had the same thought & checked Thorntree & its already on there.

I have never been to Nepal - but is it worth contacting some tour companies who take tourists on this route to see if anyone (guides they use - who may have used the rest houses along the track) might have seen her. You never know.

Kathie May 11th, 2010 10:00 AM

janev, after posting this, I looked too and saw it there. She got some good advice there about contacting trekking companies who can give out flyers at teh tea houses along the way. Also, the trekking permit office can give info about proposed route.

Also, the folks on Thorntree recommended contacting the US embassy in Kathmandu. Lots of good advice over there on Thorntree.

How sad. I hope she just got delayed.

I hope there's a good ending to this!

Thanks all. I copied the message from the facebook/Denver Post. The gal seems to be very worldly and confident. I don't know her, but I do think she thought things would be fine. Her parents are flying over there to find her. Currently there are MAOIST protests....according to the NYTimes....and so my feeling is that she just can't call because someone's not letting her have access to new batteries....I think she's ok, but she's probably in a tough place...maybe full of fear and just needing to get home......Thanks again, and if you pray, please say a prayer for her. If you don't pray will you please continue the good thoughts? Thanks, Rotzi.

I've been following this story and I must admit I don't understand what's going on. She's been missing for almost 3 months, without a trace, except on the first or second day on the trail. No amount of money thrown at a search will find her alive. She's not injured waiting to be rescued. The abduction theories seem to me very far fetched. What are they trying to accomplish with the continuing search?

paparotzi Jul 17th, 2010 11:31 AM

I don't know. Peace, closure, maybe. They don't know what has happened. Marija, question for you, from your perspective, if you don't think she will be found, what do you think may have happened to her? Any ideas are welcome.

Marija Jul 17th, 2010 12:44 PM

I would guess the most likely explanations are evil men, wild animals or injury/accident. Neither the animals nor the men are likely to have stashed her away for later release and after three months she's not awaiting rescue from an injury. Closure is always good but sometimes it just doesn't happen. She's not the first solo hiker to have gone missing in Nepal without a trace.

I was thinking about her just this afternoon. How sad for this family that she is still unaccounted for.
