Credit card with no extra fee for each transaction
I am looking for a credit credit which is good in Asia, where they do not charge an extra fee every time you charge an item
|
Capital One or USAA do not charge an extra fee (other than the 1% Visa adds to all cards) and both are good in Asia. This information was current last month.

We obtained a Capital One card just for this purpose. Search "transaction fee" in this forum. There is a lengthy discussion on credit card international transaction fees.

brooks brothers master card from monogram bank....i use it all the time in asia with no up charge and a good exchange rate
capital one also as mentioned above... some credit union cards |
It is true that Capital One does not impose the extra 2% that seems to be common these days. But there is a disadvantage to Cap One that affects many people. If you are accumulating and using airline miles from your CC purchases, be aware that Cap One requires FAR more points per air ticket than the Credit Cards that are tied to individual airlines. For example, suppose you wanted to fly economy RT USA-Europe on a flight that would cost $1000. Using affiliated CC miles through an airline would typically require 50,000 miles. But on CapOne it would require 100,000. On the other hand, CapOne has no blackouts or capacity controls. So, it just depends on how you value miles and what your travel needs/desires are.

I assume this is an American Capital One card. I live in France and get money from my UK account via credit cards and dropped them because as well as the standard fee, they stuck on an additional charge (equivalent to about $12) on each transaction.

$12? ouch! You raise an important point. Ask you bank what all of the charges are.
